I will however, leave a forwarding link for the Page once it is up and running.<br />
<br />
I've been very busy with pottery, and a new store that I have opened "Studio 176 Art" is located in downtown Sarnia, Ontario. The concept is to give local artists, a location to show and sell their art at a reasonable cost. To date - we have 25 artists with us in the store, and we are currently looking at expanding - again. Here's the link: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Studio176.art?ref=hl"> https://www.facebook.com/Studio176.art?ref=hl</a><br />
<br />
More about that later.<br />
<br />
For now - here is a new batch of dragons - just out of the kiln a few days ago.<br />
<br />
These pictures were taken at a Ren Fest a few days ago - inside my tent, so I apologize that they are<br />
all jumbled together and not set up properly. I did want to get photos before any of them sold.<br />
Here's a rundown:<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And - this doesn't have anything to do with dragons - but these mugs came out of the kiln at the same time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Really nice effect - the top layer shines purple and red in the light. I think we'll be seeing more of this glaze.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Until next time......... and hopefully it won't be as long between visits.</div>

Yes -a whole year.<br />
I have to say it's been busy. A whirlwind to say the least.<br />
<br />
And so, here goes...........<br />
<br />
Green Dragonfly Pottery (me) has been very busy. I've been to numerous shows. Done a few gallery shows and joined a co-op of other artists.<br />
<br />
A new chapter is about to begin in 2013..........<br />
<br />
I have just rented a building in Sarnia with a friend, and we are going to use the space to showcase our work, and the work of a few other local artists. <br />
We don't have a name yet - but we are working on it.<br />
The hopes are to have it open by February (the worst month of the year to open a business).<br />
<br />
For now - we are planning. January 1st we will start painting, and wish us the best that this flies.<br />
<br />
Back to pottery:<br />
<br />
Here are a few dragons. I can't keep them in stock. People take them right out of my hands as I'm trying to take pictures. My dragons are now in collections all over North America and some have even made it to England:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3I1zchD1Mis/UM0_LdwlxYI/AAAAAAAABBY/NpB-5vpgYjE/s1600/100_2654.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3I1zchD1Mis/UM0_LdwlxYI/AAAAAAAABBY/NpB-5vpgYjE/s320/100_2654.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2Y0_qb4dZV8/UM0_PsHshBI/AAAAAAAABBg/zGglFmLGxGA/s1600/100_2664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2Y0_qb4dZV8/UM0_PsHshBI/AAAAAAAABBg/zGglFmLGxGA/s320/100_2664.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23Aj9jX8too/UM0_VGAXMXI/AAAAAAAABBo/VbKYcP5jtYY/s1600/Dragon+B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23Aj9jX8too/UM0_VGAXMXI/AAAAAAAABBo/VbKYcP5jtYY/s320/Dragon+B.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
These aren't the best pictures. I didn't get a chance to put them into a lightbox and photograph them as I usually do. These went from kiln to table - and sold within minutes. The two larger dragons have real gemstones on them - these were very popular. Some, I couldn't even get pictures of, while I was changing the batteries in the camera - people were walking away with them.<br />
<br />
There is a new clutch of babies hatching in the studio right now - they should be ready to go in the new year.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of some of my pottery at the co-op. Not really stuck on glass shelves - but hoping to have some new shelving units in the new year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a1ZEx346W-k/UM1AgvWxktI/AAAAAAAABBw/6hErMJ0vSEA/s1600/co-op.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a1ZEx346W-k/UM1AgvWxktI/AAAAAAAABBw/6hErMJ0vSEA/s320/co-op.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is a picture of my daughter Brittany's Chainmaille Jewellry also at the co-op. She does some awesome dragons in chainmaille. I will have to get pictures soon and post them here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jRNewUUnjws/UM1Az9IkxwI/AAAAAAAABB4/WE9m846Z9e8/s1600/Britts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jRNewUUnjws/UM1Az9IkxwI/AAAAAAAABB4/WE9m846Z9e8/s320/Britts.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
That's about all for now - short and sweet. I have to get some Christmas decorating done tonight - and try to finish a few projects tomorrow. There just never Seems to be enough time to get everything done.<br />
<br />
Merry Christmas - and Happy New Year to Everyone.<br />
<br />

I've done 9 shows since then and it's been a crazy year so far.<br /><br />So - I did my last show on the weekend of July 8-9 for Art in the Park in Petrolia. It was a scorching 2 days sitting under a tent in a beautiful park in the lovely Victorian Oil Town of Petrolia.<br /><br />And since then - our weather has been scorching hot - in the 90's many days - and with the humidex - many days over 100 degrees farenheit. Too hot for my blood.<br /><br />I've had plans to get into the studio - but it's just been way too hot. I open the door - walk in, walk out and close the door - just too hot.<br /><br />Last week - my DH bought me an air conditioner - so - I now have a cool studio. So - I figure I should be able to get out there and start throwing - just as soon as I clean the place up a bit.<br /><br />This weekend - I gave myself a treat. I attended 3 workshops with the London Potters Guild - "A Matter of Clay III". It was a great weekend with 3 of Canada's great Potters: John Chalke,<br />Gordon Hutchens and Valerie Metcalfe. It was capped off with a visit to Jonathons in London, which is a ceramics gallery, and Johnathon Bancroft-Snell carries pottery from many wonderful Canadian Artists (well worth a visit if you are ever in London).<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5Oqk8V7TYtk/Tj82GnmqwDI/AAAAAAAAA_c/2Kqgi7SpdKg/s1600/100_2379.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5Oqk8V7TYtk/Tj82GnmqwDI/AAAAAAAAA_c/2Kqgi7SpdKg/s320/100_2379.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638284745829433394" border="0" /></a>My Only regrets - I didn't take more pictures and<br />video. I didn't get my video camera out today until my regular camera died.<br /><br />This first picture here - shows some of John Chalke's Test Plates. He works with a lot of slips and glazes that crawl, giving very interesting textures on the surface. John is originally from England, and currently resides in Calgary.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kormWDfm3Lg/Tj819cCFdwI/AAAAAAAAA_U/1CdbNvoN4nQ/s1600/100_2385.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kormWDfm3Lg/Tj819cCFdwI/AAAAAAAAA_U/1CdbNvoN4nQ/s320/100_2385.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638284588104382210" border="0" /></a>This second picture is of Gordon Hutchens, who presented on Saturday. Man - this guy has energy. Give him a coffee and he actually bounces. I REALLY, REALLY wish that I had taken more photos of his property in Beautiful British Columbia.<br />Gordon works with crystalline glazes and also does a lot of wood firing.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This last picture is actually a picture taken during<br />a slide show. I was kind of off to the side - so<br />my picture looks a bit funny. It's of a teapot<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DVOH3JBTg2E/Tj8112HBHjI/AAAAAAAAA_M/mxvRgiEIjGQ/s1600/DSC00040.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DVOH3JBTg2E/Tj8112HBHjI/AAAAAAAAA_M/mxvRgiEIjGQ/s320/DSC00040.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638284457665437234" border="0" /></a><br />by Valerie Metcalfe of Winnipeg.<br /><br /><br />Today - Valerie demonstrated her throwing techniques, and then we all spent some time at the wheel practicing our own throwing.<br /><br /><br /><br />It was - without a doubt - a fabulous weekend.<br />Very tiring - but fabulous.<br /><br />I can't wait to get back to the wheel.<br /><br /><br />But first........... A trip to Newfoundland.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-68993664865115177892011-04-05T19:56:00.000-07:002011-04-05T20:15:06.560-07:00Peeking in the KilnWell - I have my first sale of this year coming up this Saturday. So, it's been a flurry of activity in the studio lately, because after this sale, there are 6 more sales booked in the next 2 months.<br /><br />Lots of late nights - throwing, trimming, glazing.<br /><br />And, it's always a little exciting - and sometimes scary opening the kiln.<br /><br />This past year has been horrible for glaze flops. I had major problems with several glazes - all due to one ingredient - rutile. I spend months and months testing new glaze batches - every one of them coming out a yucky yellow green, until I finally happened upon a website, and the answer to my problem. I replaced my rutile - and voila - vibrant blues and greens once again.<br /><br />So - here's what I found in the kiln.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wYnsKkQY08c/TZvXd1mQuzI/AAAAAAAAA_A/RUS-EMynrkw/s1600/100_2234.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wYnsKkQY08c/TZvXd1mQuzI/AAAAAAAAA_A/RUS-EMynrkw/s320/100_2234.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592300269914340146" border="0" /></a><br />On the top shelf - I had a load of bird feeders.<br /><br />Great colour for the most part - LOVE that<br />turquoise that you see in the very back (I'll be doing more in that glaze for sure).<br />Lots of bright blues - and greens.<br />Bit bummed with the black you see in the middle.<br />Although it was a test. Those feeders were actually already glazed - and I overdipped the tops in the bright blue to try to brighten them up a bit. Unfortunately - the black ate the blue glaze. Still loving that turquoise.<br /><br /><br />Oops - I forgot to take a picture of the second shelf.<br />Doesn't matter anyway - it was just a lot of blue and green bowls. Very nice - although - the glaze on 3 of them crawled really wierd - so - I'm thinking I can't use the titanium blue over top of the licorice black - it just doesn't work. Bummer.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ht8CESP2YI/TZvXUHgKUsI/AAAAAAAAA-4/cn0hScm64ts/s1600/100_2236.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ht8CESP2YI/TZvXUHgKUsI/AAAAAAAAA-4/cn0hScm64ts/s320/100_2236.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592300102921900738" border="0" /></a>The bottom shelf though - really excites me.<br /><br />Now - you might find it a bit bland. However,<br />I am just starting to do a bit of chinese brush painting and sumi-e on my pottery for a taste of something different.<br /><br />This is my very first test of this style - and I've have absolutely no training in it - but I am quite delighted with the overall results. I think once I get a bit better at the actual brush painting - it could be a nice change from the ordinary dipped<br />pottery. I also find the brush painting to be very<br />therapeutic (except when I screw up).<br />Sounds kind of corny - but almost Zen like.<br /><br />Now - the large bowl to the right - and the two white tea bowls beside it are interesting as well.<br />This is a new clay for me. It's by Laguna - called Frost. It's very translucent and white. Very<br />interesting to work with. I'd like to do more with it - but it's very expensive, so it will be for special pieces.<br /><br />Look for these pieces at the sale on Saturday - hope to see you there.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-59478588514053620722011-03-24T14:37:00.001-07:002011-03-24T14:57:59.625-07:00Back to the WheelYes - I know I haven't posted for a bit. It's been rather hectic. And everyone's been sick (tis the season) - and, excuses, excuses, excuses.<br /><br />I have been busy though.<br /><br />Earlier this month - I had the opportunity to go to a weekend workshop at the Kawartha Potters Guild in Peterborough. The workshop presenter was Simon Leach, youngest grandson of<br />well known potter Bernard Leach.<br /><br />Simon was very informative - and entertaining.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zwd1GqmIIh8/TYu7X_kZnbI/AAAAAAAAA-o/WKbX1PFyguQ/s1600/100_2101.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zwd1GqmIIh8/TYu7X_kZnbI/AAAAAAAAA-o/WKbX1PFyguQ/s320/100_2101.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587765783558725042" border="0" /></a><br />In this picture - he's entertaining us by throwing 2 bowls at the same time. It was a good ice breaker.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This second picture shows a bowl that he just <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6bR6cXS-Thw/TYu7O8hHSZI/AAAAAAAAA-g/wCoOCptDW4I/s1600/057.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6bR6cXS-Thw/TYu7O8hHSZI/AAAAAAAAA-g/wCoOCptDW4I/s320/057.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587765628120811922" border="0" /></a><br />finished "fluting" for us.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />It was really a nice weekend getaway.<br /><br />The drive home was a bit terrible though - as the roads had gotten quite icy in our area - making<br />for a slow drive the last hour or so.<br /><br />So - now I have to get back to the wheel - and get ready for upcoming shows for the year.<br /><br />I have been working - but the last 15 bowls went out for empty bowls and several pieces were made for commissions. I have most of them out of the way right now - I have some planters and birdfeeders to hand build for commission yet.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jkyNq7Xf0t0/TYu9hakIMcI/AAAAAAAAA-w/jkOf_zigEAY/s1600/100_2227.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jkyNq7Xf0t0/TYu9hakIMcI/AAAAAAAAA-w/jkOf_zigEAY/s320/100_2227.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587768144447418818" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I have also been playing with glass a lot. Right now - I'm playing with fusing glass to the top of pottery pendants to get some interesting effects.<br /><br />In this picture - I'm showing some test pieces where I fused the glass frit to the surface of several little pendants. It gives an interesting<br />crackly effect because the glass shrinks at a different rate than the clay. <br />I'm really quite pleased and excited by the possibilities - and I have some different ideas swirling around in my head.<br /><br />Now - it's just a matter of putting it onto the wheel.................... gotta get back to the wheel.<br /><br />I'll post again soon - I promise!Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-20488481359099038652011-01-16T18:43:00.000-08:002011-01-16T19:26:53.287-08:00Finally - a new PostYes - I know....... I promised to try to keep up more up to date with the blog.<br />But well - you know.......... Life gets busy - and the blog is sometimes the last thing on my mind.<br /><br />Since September, I had 12 shows/sales, some of the sales were 2 - 3 days long. It was a rather busy - tiring few months. Long hours in the studio -and many late nights firing kilns.<br /><br />In there - I did manage to remember to snap a few pictures of some of my work. I must remember in the future to take pictures of all of my work for future reference.<br /><br />Dragons:<br />They seem to be a huge part of my work these days.<br />They are time consuming to make - but lots of fun. I make "Welsh" or Medievel dragons.<br />Each of them has their own personality - and they become just like pets. Sometimes it's very<br />hard to put them up for adoption because I do get attached.<br /><br />This little fella was a gift to my friend Barb for Christmas.<br /> "Dragonfly and Friend"<br /><br />The look on the dragons face says it all. (if you click on the picture - you can see a larger version).<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOx8D_-VCI/AAAAAAAAA-E/ZvqsuBzfqew/s1600/100_2076.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOx8D_-VCI/AAAAAAAAA-E/ZvqsuBzfqew/s320/100_2076.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562985610156594210" border="0" /></a><br />This next little feller does double duty. Not only is he cute - but he's also the "Keeper of the Jewels".<br />His tail is a ring holder - and his hands will hold a necklace (in this case he's holding one of my daughter's "<a href="http://silverhaunt.darkfolio.com/">Tree of Life</a>" pendants). You could also use his horns to hold your earrings.<br />Standing just 5" tall - he's a real cutie. I plan to make a few more of these in the future - and make the wings removable to put your stuff inside the body like a box.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOxGbAVZUI/AAAAAAAAA90/UEHCrS7Ox_w/s1600/100_2064.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOxGbAVZUI/AAAAAAAAA90/UEHCrS7Ox_w/s320/100_2064.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562984688619185474" border="0" /></a>This picture is just a shelf of different dragons that I had at a show in London, Ontario recently.<br />Not the best picture really - but it does show 4 of the different styles of dragons that I make.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOwuE5Io-I/AAAAAAAAA9c/RxuFNgdDJ78/s1600/100_2020.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOwuE5Io-I/AAAAAAAAA9c/RxuFNgdDJ78/s320/100_2020.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562984270366548962" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Of course - I also do other types of pottery. Here are a couple of Handbuilt planters/serving dishes.<br />I had some real problem with the glaze bubbling - and I had to refire them - 3 times. Each time - the blue glaze ran more to the bottom of the pot - leaving greens and browns behind. <br />I was rather pleased with the overall effect in the end.<br /><br />The top picture is of the inside of the shorter pot. They have a barnyard scene around the outside - and the barn scenes on the bottom as well.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOw-gvYnUI/AAAAAAAAA9s/cK-M8gVV1c0/s1600/100_2060.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOw-gvYnUI/AAAAAAAAA9s/cK-M8gVV1c0/s320/100_2060.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562984552719752514" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This Picture shows the "Pebble" planter and the outside of the barnyard dish. Personally - I love the colours on these pieces - almost like a watercolour wash.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOw3QTRCJI/AAAAAAAAA9k/bkjMF60fGRU/s1600/100_2057.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TTOw3QTRCJI/AAAAAAAAA9k/bkjMF60fGRU/s320/100_2057.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562984428047763602" border="0" /></a><br />That's all for tonight. I also have a new line of handbuilt "Bark" pieces. I'll take some pictures of them, and post them in my next blog (hopefully soon).Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-44371825575543389552010-06-13T17:33:00.000-07:002010-06-13T18:17:37.576-07:00Sometimes Life Gets BusyLife has gotten a bit crazy around here this past few months. I hadn't realized that it was 6 months since I posted - 6 months!<br /><br />So - I'm taking a bit of time to update what's going on in my world of pottery.<br /><br />I'm still working on my dragons.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBV5wzJuPZI/AAAAAAAAA2Y/lWTnnpfbgP0/s1600/Dragon+1+-+Tammy+Ward.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 198px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBV5wzJuPZI/AAAAAAAAA2Y/lWTnnpfbgP0/s320/Dragon+1+-+Tammy+Ward.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482422000665116050" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This guy here is one of several of my bottle dragons that I have made.<br /><br />I start out throwing a bottle on the wheel - then<br />throw it down on the table. Whatever shape it takes is the pose that the dragon will assume.<br /><br />I'm in the process of doing some baby dragons right now, so I will post them soon.<br /><br />I'm also still doing some of the dragons on the<br />side of pots.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBV53TyiZBI/AAAAAAAAA2g/JmQ9KCnbQnw/s1600/Dragon+Bowl.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 303px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBV53TyiZBI/AAAAAAAAA2g/JmQ9KCnbQnw/s320/Dragon+Bowl.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482422112505455634" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I have this one here - which is particularly stunning. The dragon hangs over the side of the<br />bowl. The stunning part is the inside of the bowl.<br /><br />The colour and depth of the glaze is amazing -<br />and accidental.<br /><br />I had glazed it once but missed a spot on the rim - so I dabbed some black glaze on top of the rim and refired it. The result was this pool of blue that the dragon is looking into.<br /><br /><br /><br />I continue to work on my birdhouses and bird feeders and soap dishes (all the big sellers at<br />sales) - but I really enjoy the dragons - they have so much<br />personality.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBWB1UPZkjI/AAAAAAAAA2w/n-Fu1ruIVC0/s1600/Carnelian+Tree+of+Life,+Large.png"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/TBWB1UPZkjI/AAAAAAAAA2w/n-Fu1ruIVC0/s320/Carnelian+Tree+of+Life,+Large.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482430874359796274" border="0" /></a><br />And now for this little ditty here.<br />My daughter makes these fantastic<br />"Tree of Life" pendants and sells them.<br />They are so fantastic. She does them in all<br />different stones - and 3 different sizes.<br /><br />I am going to work some of them into some<br />tealight holders. They will be attached to the<br />side of the tealight holder - and the light will shine through the stones.<br /><br />That's all for now, and I'll try not to be so lax<br />from now on.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-63448063687424506662009-12-30T19:29:00.000-08:002009-12-30T19:53:12.120-08:00Time to BreatheWell - the sales are over, and it's time to breathe deeply before the next round starts.<br /><br />I've just finished 6 different shows and sales during the month of November. They went very well for the most part - but I don't think that next year I will be inclined to line up quite so many shows. It's just too hard to get other work accomplished.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcMZtVuqI/AAAAAAAAAz4/M1gVV706CAc/s1600-h/Feeders.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcMZtVuqI/AAAAAAAAAz4/M1gVV706CAc/s320/Feeders.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421239050832296610" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />Here is a picture of some of the birdfeeders and birdhouses that were a real hit with the customers this season. I love the organic shape of the birdfeeders - and the colours.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I have 3 new pottery students starting in the next few weeks. So - I am very busy trying to clean up and organize my studio. I have to figure out where I'm going to put everything - and everybody - because my studio isn't really all that large.<br /><br /><br /><br />And - I have orders - orders - orders to fill.<br /><br />The latest <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcqYdWMsI/AAAAAAAAA0I/ugLwMQYb8ZE/s1600-h/Yarn+Bowls+Side.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcqYdWMsI/AAAAAAAAA0I/ugLwMQYb8ZE/s320/Yarn+Bowls+Side.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421239565892858562" border="0" /></a>item of interest seems to be<br /> "Yarn Bowls".<br /><br />Here is a side view of 3 that I made earlier this month. They are all the rage for knitters.<br />You place your ball of yarn inside the bowl - and thread the yarn through the slot on the side of the bowl.<br /><br /><br />It keeps the yarn up off the floor and confined so that it doesn't pick up dust and dirt - and possibly pet passing kittens, cats and puppies.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcTJdqSyI/AAAAAAAAA0A/hqo9j36wfyM/s1600-h/Yarn+Bowls.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SzwcTJdqSyI/AAAAAAAAA0A/hqo9j36wfyM/s320/Yarn+Bowls.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421239166730652450" border="0" /></a>This is a top view of 3 of the bowls that are in the top picture. They show that there are 2 slots - so that you could put 2 balls of yarn into the bowl.<br /><br />Actually a really neat idea.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-56376725466005247952009-10-12T16:52:00.000-07:002009-10-12T17:04:26.727-07:00A Quick UpdateSeems that life is always too busy. There are never enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that needs to be done.<br /><br />I have 5 sales coming up in November. Which means I need to have approximately 300 pieces finished for the end of October. As of today - I have about 25 pieces glazed and ready to go.<br />I also have another 100 pieces unglazed - and will probably run a couple of glaze firings in the next week or so.<br />And - I have about 25 pieces on the drying rack that aren't quite what we call greenware just yet.<br /><br />So - that means in the next two weeks - I'll need to finish off at least another 50 pieces - then I can work on getting the other 100 pieces done before the last show in the end of November.<br /><br />I can say for certain that it's going to be a difficult task.<br /><br />I took this fella out of the kiln the other day. He has to be lustre fired yet - but, I thought I would test him to see how well he works.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/StPDXytP6NI/AAAAAAAAAyI/noDN8GZeOjg/s1600-h/100_1145.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/StPDXytP6NI/AAAAAAAAAyI/noDN8GZeOjg/s320/100_1145.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5391867992408582354" border="0" /></a><br />If you look closely - (click on the picture to make it larger),<br />you can see the smoke coming out of his nostrils.<br /><br />This is my only one - I'm hoping to get a few more done before November.<br /><br />Back to the wheel.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-36483345925269017422009-08-17T16:36:00.000-07:002009-08-17T17:02:44.642-07:00Where Have I Been?Umm - I've been hearing that a lot lately.<br /><br />Truth be told - my daughter came home for the month of July to visit - so I spent as much time as possible with her, as I won't see her again until Christmas time.<br /><br />I have also spent a lot of time in front of the wheel - and handbuilding.<br /><br />I have a new line of pottery out - called DragonWare. So there has been much design work - and preparations for the upcoming fall shows. Orders have been rolling in - and I'm trying to keep up - but I'll give you a little sneak preview.<br /><br />None of it is glazed yet (a stray cat has had kittens in my studio, and I can't fire up the kilns because of the heat) - but hopefully I can move the kittens out this next week - and get some glazing done.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sonqv63H8oI/AAAAAAAAAw0/RYOZkBmrXO0/s1600-h/Dragon+Pot+2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sonqv63H8oI/AAAAAAAAAw0/RYOZkBmrXO0/s320/Dragon+Pot+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371082139591242370" border="0" /></a><br />So - here we go:<br /><br />I'll start out with the dragon teapot.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sonq3jnMxpI/AAAAAAAAAw8/iemludA7-YA/s1600-h/Hitchhiker.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sonq3jnMxpI/AAAAAAAAAw8/iemludA7-YA/s320/Hitchhiker.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371082270789387922" border="0" /></a><br />Then there's the mug:<br />I call these little guys "hitchhikers" because that's exactly what they are doing - hitching a ride on your mug.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrXcPNO4I/AAAAAAAAAxc/0MUMSkW19wo/s1600-h/Smokey+Front.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrXcPNO4I/AAAAAAAAAxc/0MUMSkW19wo/s320/Smokey+Front.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371082818565520258" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Then there's the incense burner that my<br />wonderful husband says looks like a drunken<br />cow - but really - I think it looks like a dragon puckering up for a kiss. The smoke comes out of the nose.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrolqKB2I/AAAAAAAAAxk/PWpixm9o_Nw/s1600-h/dragon+gob.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrolqKB2I/AAAAAAAAAxk/PWpixm9o_Nw/s320/dragon+gob.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371083113152251746" border="0" /></a><br />This is a wine goblet - he's guarding your drink for you.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonuRgDxWII/AAAAAAAAAx0/1cXstJk-lpY/s1600-h/drinkin+bud.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonuRgDxWII/AAAAAAAAAx0/1cXstJk-lpY/s320/drinkin+bud.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371086015046965378" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br />This guy is kinda cute too - I call him drinkin bud, cause he's kind of hanging on to the side monitoring how full the glass is.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />And here's the last one for now:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrM_x24WI/AAAAAAAAAxU/VSVaVSRewbw/s1600-h/teapot+reworked.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SonrM_x24WI/AAAAAAAAAxU/VSVaVSRewbw/s320/teapot+reworked.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371082639127535970" border="0" /></a><br />Another teapot - this time the dragon is hanging on to the<br />side, with his tail curled around the spout. I will have<br />a bamboo handle on it when it's done.<br /><br /><br /><br />I have more - but don't want you to suffer from<br />Dragon overload.<br /><br />So - if you don't see me for a bit more - it's because I have to get out 300 pieces for<br />the end of September - I'll try to post more pictures as soon as I get a chance to glaze some of these.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-61071437612453835652009-06-29T14:21:00.000-07:002009-06-29T14:30:49.488-07:00This is for Heidi<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Skkwxvh_I1I/AAAAAAAAAus/X25Oo8Ljk7E/s1600-h/dragon+pots.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Skkwxvh_I1I/AAAAAAAAAus/X25Oo8Ljk7E/s320/dragon+pots.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352863263237284690" border="0" /></a><br />Heidi is a friend of mine that lives in Eastern Ontario and also raises Shetland sheep.<br /><br />Heidi is also a dragon lover like me - so we have much in common:<br /><br />Heidi - I thought I'd post this picture for you:<br /><br />This is a group of my dragon pots - the ones that<br />didn't melt. There are actually crystals growing on the surface of the pottery. This is achieved by having the right glaze medium - and maintaining a particular temperature in the kiln for a certain amount of time, in order to let the crystals form. The glazes for crystals are very runny - and in some cases will run right off the pot - so you have to make little drip trays to catch the glaze - or else your kiln shelves will be ruined. Crystalline glazing is actually a rather work intensive process - which is why crystalline pots will sell for so much more money.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdvo3sQILuI/AAAAAAAAAmE/X4du4AwDlm8/s1600-h/3+bowls.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdvo3sQILuI/AAAAAAAAAmE/X4du4AwDlm8/s320/3+bowls.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322103428137627362" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br />These are some examples of my pots:<br /><br /><br /><br />(if you click on the picture you can make it larger to see better detail)<br /><br />This first image is of 3 small bowls that I made.<br /><br />Now - we did encounter some minor problems<br />with the glaze. We had to reformulate the glaze<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdvo8wFa4_I/AAAAAAAAAmM/rvCKbZLKWjw/s1600-h/blue+bowl.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdvo8wFa4_I/AAAAAAAAAmM/rvCKbZLKWjw/s320/blue+bowl.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322103515065803762" border="0" /></a><br />to a cone 6 from a cone 10 glaze - and it didn't<br />want to melt and run the way that it should.<br /><br />So you will see a couple of bare spots on the<br />bowls where the glaze didn't fill in - but all<br />in all - for a first attempt - I was very excited<br />to get some nice crystal growth.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The second image is just a closer shot of the blue bowl that I made.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdvpCC8-CcI/AAAAAAAAAmU/QjT_ExOSV9k/s1600-h/green+bowl.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdvpCC8-CcI/AAAAAAAAAmU/QjT_ExOSV9k/s320/green+bowl.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322103606029978050" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The third shot is of one of the green bowls that I<br />made.<br /><br /> I actually made 2 green bowls - but one of them had a very large bare spot on it.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdvpHl-QrWI/AAAAAAAAAmc/2jZlWQTWH2Q/s1600-h/vase.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdvpHl-QrWI/AAAAAAAAAmc/2jZlWQTWH2Q/s320/vase.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322103701329980770" border="0" /></a><br />And this last shot is of a little bud vase that I<br /> made. I am quite pleased with the<br />vase - there is a little spot under the rim that didn't run - but it was pretty good over all. <br /><br /><br />I decided to try the blue on top of the green just for a bit of fun - it ran nicely and gave quite a good effect. <br /><br />The pot did start to slump ever so slightly - as we were firing these glazes to cone 8, and I was only using a cone 6 clay - but it's not too noticeable from this angle.<br /><br />I have been collecting crystalline glazed pottery for several years now, and have a sizable collection from various potters.<br /><br />In a future post - I will show some of their pots - and the beautiful colours that can be achieved with crystalline glazes.<br /><br />Hopefully by then - I can add in some more of my own pots to show.Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-77498400472081149222009-04-05T09:47:00.000-07:002009-04-05T11:02:11.419-07:00Gee - Forgetful Me.Well - I started this blog in January - and I've been so busy, I haven't had time to post to it since.<br />But I'm back.<br /><br />I've been away a lot the last few months - taking pottery and glass courses. So, I finally have a weekend at home - I thought I'd catch up a bit.<br /><br />First of all - not all pottery turns out good. As a matter of fact - sometimes - really bad things happen.<br /><br />In December - right before a show (of course) - my kiln decided to get cranky - and overfire.<br />Now - luckily - I wasn't too far away - and caught it before everything melted completely.<br /><br />Unfortunately - my glazes - all started to melt - and bubble.<br /><br />This first photo will show you the unfortunate<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjkYEodOHI/AAAAAAAAAlE/rgUjsBOLup4/s1600-h/overfired+bowl.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjkYEodOHI/AAAAAAAAAlE/rgUjsBOLup4/s320/overfired+bowl.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321254061949663346" border="0" /></a><br />result:<br /><br />If you click on the picture to make it big - you can see the bubbles. This is supposed to be a lovely<br />light green bowl - with red celtic accents.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjlFYcxxYI/AAAAAAAAAlU/aAe-dRFv-rE/s1600-h/overfire+jug.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjlFYcxxYI/AAAAAAAAAlU/aAe-dRFv-rE/s320/overfire+jug.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321254840363500930" border="0" /></a><br />The same thing happened with this jug - it was sitting right<br />beside the bowl on the shelf.<br />So when I opened my kiln - it was rather upsetting<br />to see this.<br /><br />Now - not all glazing accidents are unhappy.<br /><br />I also had a few birdhouses in the kiln that did the same thing - and it was a real interesting effect. I put them in the<br />sale - and they sold immediately.<br /><br /><br />Well - I figured that I should watch the kiln a little closer for the next firing.<br /><br />Guess what - it overfired again. Seems - in the first overfiring, the sensing rod in the kiln sitter became bent - and - well - a lot of technical jargon later -<br />we now have it fixed. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjl_eiigcI/AAAAAAAAAlc/TUSKIak2rds/s1600-h/blue+dragon+pot.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjl_eiigcI/AAAAAAAAAlc/TUSKIak2rds/s320/blue+dragon+pot.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321255838430691778" border="0" /></a><br />But not before I lost another shelf full of pots.<br /><br /><br />This Blue dragon pot - was one of the unfortunate losers in this load.<br />Even after it came out, and was ruined- I still like it - I can never sell it because -<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjn7aDaxjI/AAAAAAAAAlk/x21dBLoX0PU/s1600-h/inside+overfire+pot.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjn7aDaxjI/AAAAAAAAAlk/x21dBLoX0PU/s320/inside+overfire+pot.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321257967530198578" border="0" /></a><br />If you look inside the pot - you will see all the<br />glaze gooped into the bottom of the pot.<br /><br />What you probably can't see in this picture - is that the clay pot actually started to melt - and there are lumps that we call "bloating" down in the bottom of the pot.<br /><br />I figure as a reminder - I can put it up on the shelf - and look at the outside of the pot.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The same thing happened with this unfortunate<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjo1_i-2GI/AAAAAAAAAls/JF0tB84W_Uo/s1600-h/brown+dragon+pot.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/Sdjo1_i-2GI/AAAAAAAAAls/JF0tB84W_Uo/s320/brown+dragon+pot.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321258974027110498" border="0" /></a><br />dragon pot - which the glaze turned brown and<br />ran off the pot. It was supposed to be a<br />very nice green and gold.<br /><br />Now - the flip side of this is - that these are still<br />quite striking pots. And a friend of mine that is<br />a manager of a business out of town - just loves<br />them. He has asked me to do several more,<br />so that he can sell them.<br /><br />Go figure?<br /><br /><br />The kiln is now fixed - and - I'm working on<br />another load of dragon pots - keep your fingers crossed for me.<br /><br />Not all has been rough going. I recently took a glass fusing and slumping course - and have decided to incorporate the glass into my pottery business.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjqVGLDCjI/AAAAAAAAAl0/7lDcKCm0264/s1600-h/glass+dishes.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SdjqVGLDCjI/AAAAAAAAAl0/7lDcKCm0264/s320/glass+dishes.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321260607893342770" border="0" /></a><br />These are the first two dishes that I made.<br />They are basically test pieces for me - using the different types of glass. There are all kinds of glass items that can be purchased for the process - and you just need to be creative from there.<br /><br />Of course - with glass work - the most important tool in my kit (especially since I'm such a klutz) - is a box of band-aids.<br /><br />I only suffered one small cut while putting these<br />together. So I am very proud of myself.<br /><br /><br />I've also taken a course in crystalline glazes - and I have the vase that I made at the office, so I will bring it home tomorrow - and my next blog will be about crystallines. Until then.........Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-583054996710608997.post-76455994335250551302009-01-20T18:08:00.000-08:002009-01-20T18:49:56.325-08:00In the BeginningWell - here I am. I've had several requests from people, to set up some sort of site so that they could view - and possibly purchase my pottery. I'll see how this goes - I'm not quite ready for an Etsy Store just yet.<br /><br />So - about me.<br /><br />I'm really a structural steel estimator - and project manager for a small family owned business.<br />What does that mean? STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!<br />I spend my days - looking at blueprints - determining what steel is required for a particular project, then I estimate the cost of said steel, labour, etc. Then - we are supposed to fabricate the steel and install it. Most days - it doesn't go that way. Usually - I end up trying to figure out why someone who has a diploma on their wall - doesn't know what they are doing - and I'm supposed to figure out what they want, how to make it fit, and get the job done with the least amount of cost to the customer (that was wording it all very politely). It usually goes like this:<br />$%^#^&&%#@#@%$*&@@@$#%$^%! (sorry - can't say those words here).<br /><br />This is where the pottery comes in.<br /><br />In the year 2000 (remember that - Y2K thing)? I decided, that I needed a little bit of Me time - and to de-stress. My mother had suffered a massive stroke, there was that Y2K thing, I had this farm, 2 young children, this crazy job, and just needed a way to relax.<br /><br />Enter - our local community college. I took a beginner's pottery course over the summer, as a one evening a week getaway. To my surprise - I really enjoyed myself. Scroll forward.........<br />to 2009.<br /><br />I still work. The job is still stressful (very). I still have the farm. My kids are older (one is in university - the other is in grade 11) - and, I still need to de-stress.<br /><br />Only now - I have my own studio (Green Dragonfly Pottery) - so I can do my pottery at home.<br />Hmmm - so much for the one night a week out. I might have to re-think this plan.<br /><br />My pottery is getting better. I am always learning and going to workshops. But now - I feel pretty secure in the knowledge that I could probably show or sell some of my stuff. Here are a few of my creations - I won't say latest - because I have to take pictures of some of my newer stuff.<br /><br /><br />These are my Raku sheep. Each are about 1 1/2" high. I love the funky colours - you never know what you will get with raku.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJXlM9ajI/AAAAAAAAAjI/JNBztJqIzJg/s1600-h/p2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJXlM9ajI/AAAAAAAAAjI/JNBztJqIzJg/s320/p2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293569450237061682" border="0" /></a><br /><br />These are little birdhouses - again - about 1 1/2" high. They turned out very rustic - I will post a picture. Once they were glazed - the colours became very intense and bright.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJc9A_q8I/AAAAAAAAAjQ/GWaQCqJzbeg/s1600-h/p3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJc9A_q8I/AAAAAAAAAjQ/GWaQCqJzbeg/s320/p3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293569542528674754" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Tiny sheep again - they all became mobiles - then they all sold very quickly. I will have to make some more - as I have to do a little class at an upcoming meeting on making mobiles.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJhlh_kFI/AAAAAAAAAjY/M_IA43BXfi4/s1600-h/p4.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 204px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJhlh_kFI/AAAAAAAAAjY/M_IA43BXfi4/s320/p4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293569622123974738" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This is a raku vase - I donated it to ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation of Ontario) for a fundraiser. I have a few more dragon vases ready to glaze - just have to get out to the studio and get to work (soon as it warms up a bit)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJSGEoZfI/AAAAAAAAAjA/d6BRfaSg5D8/s1600-h/p1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__xkYsTw-MUk/SXaJSGEoZfI/AAAAAAAAAjA/d6BRfaSg5D8/s320/p1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293569355981284850" border="0" /></a><br />Well - that's it for today - don't want to overload everyone with info.<br />In the next few weeks - I will take pictures and post what I have available - and show some of my upcoming work. Lots of great ideas - and I love to hear from people with ideas for pottery, so don't be shy - leave a comment.<br /><br />Until next time..........Tammy W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10931554158709322638noreply@blogger.com2
